We just heard that Roderick Cannon passed away yesterday (9 June). We are quite grieved. He made remarkable contributions to our understanding of the history and breadth of our art.
He will be missed.

Sad News
One of the great scholars and devotees of Piobaireachd whose like we will not see again.
This is a very sad loss indeed. Roderick has been a wonderful colleague, friend and mentor to me for twenty years, raising the bar and setting an uplifting example. His contribution to piping has been more powerful than the colossal scholarship visible in his many publications: his capacity for reconciliation and understanding, navigating impossible waters with enthusiasm and generosity of spirit, was inspirational. Roderick made things happen with good humour, bringing a magical lightness of touch to situations where ordinary people would carry a grudge, be enraged or lose heart - a gentle, positive momentum and nobility. I will miss him enormously.
