Just a note to share with you some of the upcoming articles, projects and events we will be sharing with you in the weeks ahead.
The inaugural volume of the Modern Pibroch Library. Certain be controversial, as the concept of “pibroch” is being stretched quite broadly with this volume, we are thrilled and excited by the quality of submissions we received from all over the world, and from composers on edge of our music. The crossover insights and creativity is simply stunning.
We are hoping to help our member Christopher Lee with his work toward his degree. He is focusing on developing a pedagogical approach to learning “your first pibroch” in a way that overcomes any negative impression or hesitation a beginning student may have about learning pibroch. He will be conducting surveys, interviews and testing his lesson format before submitting his thesis to his faculty.
The Canntaireachd Project, by Thomas Zoeller and Allan MacDonald, will be launching its first tune in a couple of days. Go here and subscribe to this project - they require a subscription of $1000 per recording, and are very close to getting there. Donate the amount you are willing to pay for each tune.
New tunes are on their way. Within a year, the entire Hannay-MacAuslan collection will have been recorded. We’re pretty sure this has never been accomplished before. There are, however, some very big tunes still to finish up: Mary’s Praise, Young George Salute and Grim Donald.
We want to encourage you to continue to support our member, Dr. Stephen Rooklidge and his KKRN Piping Hour, the weekly program which, monthly, presents a featured piper.
Finally, we would like to encourage our members to send in their recordings. We would love to hear what you are playing! It could be fiddle, harp or piping pibroch. Share the love!
