379 – How to Play the Bagpipe – Pipe the Band Lewis W Davidson

Cannon found one edition of this book but indicated there was an earlier one that he had not located. The present writer has not found either of the two Cannon refers to but has in his collection two later editions.

There is no title-page; pp [1], 2, 31, [32] are the outside covers.

The publisher’s note gives a short biography of the author, who became Bagpipe Director at Carnegie Institute of Technology, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, In 1950 he wrote a manual of pipe band marching and information, which was published by the Carnegie Institute.

The book was on sale in the U.S.A. in 1963.

At the bottom of page 3 is ‘Copyright © 1966 by Chas. H. Hansen Music Corp. Miami Beach, Florida. Inside the front cover and on both sides of the rear cover are advertisements from two companies for various sheet music books.

Some of these books can be located on the internet and they are consistent with having been published about the mid 1960s.

Despite the name change on the cover this is the same book. The scanning is of the rear cover. It is identical to the front cover with the exception that it has the price at the top right hand corner.

Page 3 still has the copyright details with the date 1966 however, there are two advertisements inside the front and rear covers and these advertise books that were first published in 1977 and 1978.
