The cover (but not the title-page) has ‘Book I’ at top left; the index page is headed ‘Contents of Book 1’. Pipe-Major MacLennan had planned to publish another similar book, but his death in 1929 prevented this. The proofs of Book I were corrected and the book published during his last illness. (Information supplied to Askew by Mrs. G. S. MacLennan).
One of the tunes is a pibroch, ‘The Lament for Lieutenant John McLennan’. It is laid out across two centre pages which fold out further to give a sheet 27″ across. These unnumbered pages fall between pp 23 and 24. For a biographical note on the compiler, see the Piping Times, April 1973.
