An update by Geoff Hore 2008-2015. The writing in black font is from A Bibliography of Bagpipe Music. The update comments are in blue font.
The two books included here were located by Cannon and are in the Addendum to his Bibliography (Page 282-3). At the time of writing it is not known if there are any others.
p [i]. title; p [iii], index; p [iv], blank, p , 2-20, tunes (20).

The copyright date on page 1 is 1975 and is almost certainly the year of publication as an advertisement in the Piping Times Vol 28 No 4 January 1976 confirms this book had been ‘recently published’. The book was reviewed in the Piping Times Vol 28 No 8 May 1976 and it is revealed that Peterson learned his piping at the College of Piping, Glasgow six years earlier as an adult learner.
None of the tunes has the composer’s name but the statement on the cover and title-page, ‘Original tunes Compiled and Composed by Captain J Peterson’ confirms he is the composer.
There is no indication in the book that this is intended to be the first in a series. It is only because a second one was published that we know this to be the first.
An advertisement in the Piping Times Vol 31 No 2 November 1978 for the second book in this series indicates there was at least one reprint of the first book.
p , title; p , index; p , dedication; pp 4-23, tunes (20).
- The Author’s Collection. 255mm X 180mm.
There is nothing in the book that helps to accurately date it but it was advertised in the Piping Times Vol 31 No 2 November 1978.
It is not known if there were any later editions.
- Rev 00 (20 December 2009).
- Rev 01 (15 February 2011). Minor editorial amendments.
